Alison Prewitt

Alison has been teaching Scottish Highland dancing since 2005. She began ballet at 3 yrs old under her mother’s instruction. Highland began at 9. Alison’s mum danced for the British Ballet Organization and her training for ballet, highland, tap, and jazz was with the Royal Ballet. When highland was re-structured, Alison’s mum chose to stay teaching traditional highland. This meant no competitions. Alison opened her first class in the fall of 2005 expecting to also stay on the traditional path. However, the demand for a competitive teacher in the east of TN was high; therefore, she proceeded to take the highland teacher certification in 2008. The family moved to Indiana late 2008 and Hoosier Highland was established in January 2009. Currently, Hoosier Highland dancers compete nationwide. Instruction is given in order to prepare students for competition however, being a competitive dancer is not mandatory.
