As the popular saying goes, “all good things are worth waiting for,” and En Pointe Indiana Ballet plans not to disappoint theater-goers May 14-16, 2021 as the Noblesville-based classical ballet school takes to the stage for the comic ballet Coppélia. A year in the making, En Pointe is excited to welcome the public back for this first live performance since the pandemic and share the light-hearted full-length ballet with all of Central Indiana.
“A little over a year ago, we were figuring out how to tackle virtual classes and rehearsals,” said Co-Artistic Director Robert Moore. “It’s exhilarating to think we are finally heading back to the stage in front of a live audiences. Our dancers get so much joy out of being able to perform their craft live, and our entire dance family is thrilled to be able to bring Coppélia to life for audiences.”
Considered one of the great comic ballets of the 19th Century, Coppélia is one of the most loved classical works in ballet repertory. Dr. Coppélius, a toy maker, creates a lifelike Coppélia doll and wishes for nothing more than to bring her to life. He thinks his dream has finally come true, but he has merely been caught up in a lovers’ tiff. Love triumphs over all in this comedy of mistaken identity and the finale is a breathtaking celebration of the lovers’ marriage.
“If you loved our 2019 performance of the romantic comedy of Don Quixote, then you will be sure to fall in love with the character, costumes and charm of this full-length ballet,” said Moore.
Coppélia premieres on Friday May 14, 2021 at 7 p.m. at The Auditorium at The Annex (300 North 17th St. Noblesville, Indiana 46060). Additional performances take place on Saturday May 15, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Sunday May 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets start at $12 and are available at https://enpointe.yapsody.com
